Day Three - from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping - what a ride!

On our third day in Hong Kong, we had the opportunity to visit an old part of Hong Kong, a rare sight for us Singaporeans who are used to living a busy city filled with office buildings and shopping centres.
We had a thrilling ride on a cable to vist Tai O Fishing Village.
A photo-shoot with one of teachers who accompanied us. Guess which one is the teacher?

Our trip to Ngong Ping began with a thrilling ride on a cable car which gave us a fantastic view of Hong Kong islands. The scenery as simply breath taking and seeing the great mountains loom before us left all of us in awe  At Tai O Fishing Village we had the opportunity to see wooden houses on stilts and old people making a living as fishermen - something we had never seen before at home. The houses were old and there were algae on the walls.

Unlike Singapore, life was simple as people went about in boats and bicycles unlike what we saw in Hong Kong city. In Hong Kong city, people would commute using cars and buses instead of boats and bicycles. People in Tai O Fishing Village and Hong Kong city also differ in their livelihoods. In Tai O Fishing Village, most people are fishermen and/or sell seafood products. Their livelihoods rely largely upon the sea. In Hong Kong city on the other hand, most people do not fish. Instead, most jobs are centered maintaining Hong Kong as an economic and tourism hub. People work as bankers, salespersons, tour guides and other jobs that are commonly found in cities instead of traditional jobs like fishing.
